Tires with tread depths below 1.6 mm become unusable due to their physical properties and the lack of reliability. These tires are the tires that have completed their lifetime. When the tires become worn out, they must be replaced with a new one, as they endanger driving safety. These tires that have completed their lifetime can be recycled or recovered today.
Within the scope of social projects 337 thousand 700 tons of tires, that have completed their lifetime, were collected between 2007 and 2012 within the scope of the Regulation on Control of tires that have completed their lifetime, according to the data of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on recycling and regaining them in the economy in order to protect the nature and approximately 210 thousand tons of collected tires that have completed their lifetime were used as material recovery in recycling facilities and approximately 140 thousand tons were used as energy recovery in cement and energy plants.
Tires that have become waste have been brought to life again in the electricity we use, the shoes we wore, the floors that protects our children, various areas of the automotive industry, in energy sector and in lots of other areas.
It can be used cooking after adding chemical substances to the granule rubber and some of them are made into flooring tiles and interlocking paving stones in different colors and patterns. These soft rubber tiles are laid in parks and turn into safe floors where our children can run and play freely. Granules and powdered rubber raw materials obtained from tires that have completed their lifetime also play an important role in the areas of regression. It can be laid on walking tracks and sports fields. It can be used in landscape areas, tennis fields, artificial grass football fields of cities. It acts as an asphalt additive on roads. It can be turned into rubber shoes and boots. They can even be recycled into electric energy. Tires that have completed their lifetime, which are transported to pyrolysis plants where they are recovered by heating, are heated to 800 degrees and turned into gas and oil. The resulting gases and oils can be used as an alternative fuel in power stations, your home, your business, industry and it turns into the energy and added value for Turkey. The chemical content of a standard tire that have completed its lifetime, is calculated as 9.5 liters of oil.
